About Our Tea

Our teas are pure.  They are some of the best, highest quality rare teas of China.  And we stand by that.  They are not mass produced and not for the commercial markets.  They grow wild, scattered across the top of the mountains, available only in limited quantities.  Our teas are from older tea trees.  Some planted by the universe, others may have been cultivated years ago.

Mount Wuyi

Mount Wuyi

They grow in pristine environments, high in the mountains where the mist and dew refreshes and hydrates them.  Where the sun and moon kisses each leaf.  Where the exchange of air and qi is free of chemical sprays and pesticides.  And only the earth’s own natural nutrients enrich, nourish and energize them as their roots have been planted deeply for many, many years.  Each is rich in their expression of the biodiversity of their unique surroundings.

They are all attended to by tea masters grounded in the traditions of the ancients.  Each vintage is processed as a result of a symbiotic spiritual relationship between the tea and the tea master.  During processing the tea master stays with the tea through picking, withering, bruising, kill green, rolling, and firing, throughout the day and sleepless nights, until he is satisfied that the true essence of the tea has been achieved.  For tea masters their craft is a way to enlightenment.  Tea is taken very seriously.  Their best teas are shared with only those to whom they’ve made a spiritual connection.  And to whom they know the spirit of the tea will be respected as imbibed.

Many of our teas our exclusive to us and the USA.

About Our Tea Masters

We had been drinking our tea masters’ tea for quite some time.  We had been introduced to their tea by our good friend Ming.

Master Zheng who makes our puerhs, Master XU and Master Zhou from whom we get our Wuyi rock teas.  On our first trip we spent time with Master Zheng at his beautiful tea room in Guangzhou.  It was on our next trip that we were able to spend more time with Master Xu and Master Zhou on Wuyi Mountain visiting their small boutique tea farms.

All the Tea Masters are very kind and sweet.  And each with his own spirit, personality and touch for making tea.  They have made it their way of life.  And approach the art with a deep reverence and respect for the tea, the ancient ways of tending to it, making it, and to the purity that it demands.  It has been their journey and spiritual path that they so graciously shared with us.

Meeting them was humbling and inspirational.  For years and years they studied and continue to perfect their art.  Not boastful or haughty.  Gracious, kind, hospitable and giving.  They took the time to be with us, never tiring from our questions and need for an interpreter. That would be our good friend Ming, fluent in both English and Chinese.

Hopefully one day, maybe by our next trip, we will be able to communicate in Mandarin.

About Us

Our journey with tea started when our paths crossed with Dr. Ming Wu in 2004.

Who was this man? We were fascinated, in awe, and endeared to him. He was so kind, so loving, full of joy, and truly transcendent.

It was at our first tea ceremony hosted by Dr. Wu that our spiritual connection was made to tea as well as to Ming. And our lives were changed forever. It is from this friendship and union that SonWu Tea is formed. An extension of our beloved times spent together around the tea table. And the lasting imprints of good times, good tastes and life in the moment with spirit.

Join us and find what a difference pure good tea can make in your life.

Much love, peace, health, happiness and blessings.

Nathaniel, Michele & Ming

Meet Dr. Wu

If it wasn’t for our good friend Dr. Ming Jie Wu we would never be able to talk to you about tea.  Because, we probably would never have tasted such true, pure, high mountain, non commercial grade, old tree tea and fallen in love with it.

He is not only our good friend and partner.  He is also our doctor and mentor, who has taught us  the practices of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and Taoism, along with the use of herbs and the practice of drinking tea to engender good health.

Our dear friend and partner, Dr. Ming Wu, sitting in downtown Wuyishan at Tea Master Xu's Tea House where we were invited guests.

It is with the deepest gratitude, respect and love that we introduce you to Dr. Ming Wu and the tea culture that he has shared with us and all those he meets.

Ming is a truly phenomenal human being.  A gift to mankind.  He has dedicated his life to healing and unselfishly and untiringly giving of himself.  Never a respecter of persons, he is never influenced by considerations of someone's power, wealth, social status, prestige, ethnicity, religion or race.  He offers his help and teachings to everyone.

He is a third generation Taoist Chinese Medical Doctor and Herbalist.  His grandfather and father were Taoistl Chinese Medical Doctors and Herbalists, too.  Ming learned many of the ancient remedies of herbal formulas from his dad.  And at the tender age of 7 years old, Ming started training with his dad as a serious student of Taoist TCM practices.  This included herbal medicine, acupressure in the ancient art of Tui Na, Qi Gong, and Tai Chi of which he is a Master.  And of course, the custom of drinking tea for its health giving properties and pleasure.

Ming grew up in Wu Village, in Chaozhou, in the province of Guangdong.  Not only did he learn from his dad and grandfather, he is a graduate of the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Guangzhou, China.  He also studied in the true tradition of ancient Chinese medicine in the lineage of the revered and famous Dr. Dong Feng. His studies, accomplishments and accolades are numerous.  As a well educated village doctor he can set a bone and restore the most unhealthy and sick suffering from high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, cancer, chrohn’s, asthma, and any and all diseases, through his use of Traditional Chinese Medicine including dietary advice, and high quality medicinal teas.

Ming is very famous in China.  As China has now pledged to maintain and grow its ancient Traditional Chinese Medical practices along side its western adaptations.  Ming’s knowledge, teachings and practices are much sought after.

Ming’s life encounters are amazing.  Seemingly unbelievable at times, they are all true, ordained by the Universe, and orchestrated by benevolent divinity.  And it is with this same benevolence and good fortune that Ming came into our lives.
